Big month. I launched a new app called Tuteee - an AI math tutor. This one is different from Ritualz and Expensif because it has real potential to charge more. I also shipped Flutter web versions of all my apps, analytics dashboards, and monetisation across the board.
CURRENT NUMBERS
MRR: $18/month (up from $13/month in Episode 1)
The numbers are still small but they're real users actually using my apps daily. Ritualz is doing well with 34 daily active users on average. Expensif is smaller but still growing. And now Tuteee is in the mix which is exciting.
WHAT I BUILT / SHIPPED
💬 Tuteee - AI Math Tutor
This is the big one this month. Tuteee is an AI-powered personal math tutor. This one is special to me because I've been a math tutor my whole life. Before I found my love for coding, I found my love for math. So this app is kind of a passion project - combining my two loves: math and building apps.
Unlike Ritualz and Expensif which are just trackers, Tuteee actually provides real educational value. The AI tutor can guide students through math problems step by step and adapt to their level. And because it's education, I can realistically charge more - thinking around $9/month.
🌐 Flutter Web Versions
I shipped Flutter web versions of all my apps using WASM (WebAssembly). This was actually a good learning experience because Flutter web with WASM is still relatively new. Now you can use Ritualz, Expensif, and Tuteee right in the browser without downloading anything.
📊 Analytics Dashboards
I built analytics dashboards for all my apps. This is so important because I need to understand how users are actually using the apps. Without data you're just guessing. Now I can see daily active users, what platforms they're on, how often they're completing actions, etc.
💰 Monetisation on All Apps
All three apps now have monetisation in place. The model I've settled on is: free to use with ads, or subscribe to pro to remove ads and unlock premium features. I've also been experimenting with rewarded ads - watch an ad to get a reward. This feels like a nice balance where users can choose.
🔗 Social Share Feature (Ritualz)
Added a new social share feature to Ritualz where users can share their habit streaks. This could help with organic growth if users share their progress on social media.
📝 Feedback Board
Added a feedback board for users to submit feature requests and bug reports. It's important to have a direct line to users so I can understand what they actually want.
WHAT I LEARNED
🌐 Flutter Web with WASM
Flutter web has gotten a lot better with WASM support. The performance is noticeably smoother than the old JavaScript renderer. It's not perfect but it's good enough to ship web versions of mobile apps now.
💰 Monetisation Strategies
I've been thinking a lot about monetisation. The "watch an ad for a reward" model feels good because it gives users a choice. Either pay for pro, or watch an ad to get the benefit temporarily. It doesn't feel as intrusive as forced ads. I'll keep experimenting with this.
🔔 Supabase Edge Functions - Push Notifications
Learned how to set up push notifications using Supabase Edge Functions. This is important for habit apps like Ritualz because reminders help users stay consistent. Edge functions are pretty powerful for running server-side code without managing your own backend.
WHAT WILL MOVE THE NEEDLE
💬 Tuteee - Passion + Business
Ritualz and Expensif are just habit and expense trackers. They're useful but there are a million of them out there. Tuteee is different - it's an AI tutor that can actually help students learn math. Education is a space where people are willing to pay real money. I can realistically charge $9/month for Tuteee which is much more than the $0.99-$2.99 I charge for the trackers. Plus it's a passion project for me as a long-time math tutor, so I'm extra motivated to make this one great.
📢 Marketing and Exposure
Building is getting easier with AI. The bottleneck now is getting users to discover the apps. I need to focus more on content creation - YouTube videos, social media posts, etc. Marketing is an area I need to improve.
🎮 Viral Game Idea
I have this idea for a simple viral game with a monetisation model I really want to try: finite lives (like 3 lives per 24 hours), watch an ad for an extra life, or subscribe to pro for unlimited lives. The key is finding the right simple game mechanic that's addictive enough. I'm excited about this one.
GOALS FOR NEXT EPISODE
- Make Tuteee production-ready: It needs to be much more usable and durable. I want to design a universal math syllabus and make the AI tutor smarter at judging the student's current ability and tracking their progress over time.
- Get Tuteee to real users: Give it to actual students to test and get feedback.
- Release the viral game: Implement the finite lives monetisation model. Need to find the right simple game mechanic first but I'm excited to ship this.
- Keep growing DAU: Focus on retention and getting more daily active users across all apps.
Thanks for reading — Download Ritualz, Expensif, or Tuteee and follow along as I try to turn these into real $1k/month apps..
